Last April, several tribes and hundreds of people from Northern Italy organized the MuTaZioni free party near Turin. Through the TAZ (Temporary Autonomous Zone), they reclaimed abandoned spaces to fill them with life and passion, powerfully asserting that we don’t need anyone’s permission to be free.
Riot police attacked the caravan, damaging vehicles and injuring those who protected the party with their own bodies.
Despite the aggression, a legal trial is now about to begin against some of the people who took part in the TAZ.
More than two years after the so-called “Anti-Rave Decree,” the Italian free party movement refuses to bow to repression and the post-fascist propaganda pushed by Meloni and her political clique.
The criminalisation of our movement is part of a broader European process that goes beyond Italy: in France, Spain, and the Benelux as well, authorities are trying to suppress a way of life and being together outside of the logic of capitalism — a community that shares values of freedom, cooperation, respect, love, and self-organization.
This is an assault on a [fourty]-year-old culture that has forged a transnational community, a network of relationships and affinities that knows no borders — a culture that experiences the party as a moment of liberation, a rupture from normality and imposed conventions, from the ticking clock of work.
It unleashes our collective desire to be together, breaking free from the capitalist cage of expensive, controlled events where people are discriminated against for the “wrong” dress code and treated as passive consumers to be squeezed dry.
From Italian and French factories to Spanish and Polish countryside, a diverse and ungovernable multitude follows the White Rabbit along paths not imposed, and every TAZ or party becomes a “Neverland” where there is no authority, no imposed limits, and the wall of speakers is the beating heart setting the rhythm.
The party is a collective organism, a living force that celebrates and defends itself.
“Take care of yourself and each other” — on the dancefloor and beyond — through events like this, where we stand in solidarity with our Italian brothers and sisters, sharing dances and imagining new sonic conspiracies.”
