In Leipzig und darüber hinaus wird derzeit unter dem Deckmantel vermeintlicher „Palästinasolidarität” gezielt gegen antisemitismuskritische Personen und Einrichtungen in Connewitz mobilisiert, darunter das linXXnet und das Conne Island. Beteiligt sind antisemitische Gruppen wie „Handala”, die zu Intifada-Demonstrationen aufrufen und das Massaker vom 7. Oktober 2023 an Besucherinnen des Nova-Festivals als legitimen Widerstand rechtfertigen, ebenso wie „Students for Palestine Leipzig”, die für die antisemitisch motivierte Boykottkampagne BDS mobilisieren. Dass diese Aktivitäten inzwischen auch Anschluss an neonazistische Akteurinnen wie die “Freien Sachsen” und das “Compact Magazin” finden, überrascht kaum.
Connewitz ist ein Stadtteil, der für eine freie, vielfältige und antifaschistische Kulturszene bekannt ist. Ein wichtiger Teil davon ist das Conne Island, welches sich nicht der antisemitischen BDS-Kampagne unterworfen hat. Doch genau das ist den Free-Palastine-Aktivistinnen ein Dorn im Auge.
Dieser Aufmarsch entlarvt einmal mehr: Es geht Lotta Antifaschista, Handala und co nicht um das Leid von Palästinenser*innen, sondern um Ausgrenzung und Boykott, provokative Selbstdarstellung, Einschüchterung und die Verbreitung antisemitischer Ressentiments. Damit reproduziert der Free-Palestine-Aktivismus klassische antisemitische Muster. Getarnt als Menschenrechtsrhetorik, richten sie sich gegen eine offene, plurale und antifaschistische Kultur in Connewitz.
Ein Angriff auf unsere Partner*innen vom Conne Island ist auch ein Angriff auf uns als Artists Against Antisemitism, die wir im letzten Jahr vier Veranstaltungen in den Räumen des Conne Islands durchgeführt haben. Freischaffende in der politischen Kulturszene, die für Vielfältigkeit, und Dialog arbeiten, sind gemeinsam betroffen und müssen zusammenstehen. Als Kulturschaffende finden wir die Feindmarkierungen von Kultureinrichtungen besonders besorgniserregend – sind diese doch Orte sowohl des Ausdrucks als auch des Austauschs. Antisemitismus, Autoritarismus und jede Form von Hass bedrohen unsere Gemeinschaft, die Freiheit der Kunst und den offenen politischen Diskurs.
Diese Hetze gefährdet nicht nur den sozialen Frieden im Viertel, sondern stellt auch jüdisches Leben und antirassistische Politik in Frage – dafür gibt es keinen Platz!
Wir stehen gemeinsam ein für einen emanzipatorischen antifaschistischen Stadtteil.
Für Diskussionskultur und Meinungsaustausch aber auch klare Kante gegen Hass, Hetze und autoritäre Ideologien.
Kein Frieden mit Antisemitinnen, keine Querfront-Mobilisierungen, keine Instrumentalisierung von Solidarität für hetzerische Ideologien.

In Leipzig and beyond, under the guise of supposed “Palestinian solidarity,” there is currently a targeted mobilization against individuals and organizations critical of antisemitism in Connewitz, including linXXnet and Conne Island. Antisemitic groups such as “Handala,” which calls for Intifada demonstrations and justifies the massacre of female attendees at the Nova Festival on October 7, 2023, as legitimate resistance, are involved, as is “Students for Palestine Leipzig,” which mobilizes for the antisemitic BDS boycott campaign. It is hardly surprising that these activities are now also connecting with neo-Nazi groups such as the “Free Saxons” and “Compact Magazine.”
Connewitz is a district known for its free, diverse, and antifascist cultural scene. An important part of this is Conne Island, which has not subscribed to the antisemitic BDS campaign. But this is precisely what the Free Palestine activists find so objectionable.
This demonstration once again exposes their true intentions: Lotta Antifaschista, Handala, and others are not concerned with the suffering of Palestinians, but rather with exclusion and boycotts, provocative self-promotion, intimidation, and the dissemination of antisemitic sentiments. In doing so, Free Palestine activism reproduces classic antisemitic patterns. Disguised as human rights rhetoric, they are directed against an open, pluralistic, and antifascist culture in Connewitz.
An attack on our partners at Conne Island is also an attack on us as Artists Against Antisemitism, who held four events at Conne Island last year. Freelancers in the political arts scene who work for diversity and dialogue are all affected and must stand together. As cultural workers, we find the labeling of cultural institutions as enemies particularly alarming – as these are places of both expression and exchange. Antisemitism, authoritarianism, and all forms of hatred threaten our community, artistic freedom, and open political discourse.
This incitement not only jeopardizes social peace in the neighborhood but also calls into question Jewish life and anti-racist politics – there is no place for this!
We stand together for an emancipatory, anti-fascist district.
For a culture of discussion and the exchange of opinions, but also a clear stance against hatred, incitement, and authoritarian ideologies.
No peace with antisemites, no cross-front mobilizations, no instrumentalization of solidarity for inflammatory ideologies.
